Spencer satisfied with outcome of NAJ meeting

Health Minister Rudyard Spencer has described Tuesday afternoon's meeting with the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) as satisfactory.

The discussions took place as a result of a letter from the NAJ to Mr. Spencer outlining issues expressed through six resolutions arising from a meeting held among nurses last week.

The resolutions addressed issues of governance, reclassification and the Standby/On-call Allowance.

In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Spencer said the parties addressed all the issues and agreed on the way forward.

He said he will discuss the fixing of the implementation date for the reclassification exercise with the Ministry of Finance, in keeping with the Industrial Disputes Tribunal ruling.

Mr. Spencer also stated that other matters involving staffing issues will be thoroughly investigated.

Additionally, the Health Minister indicated that outstanding allowances will be verified and then further discussions will be with the NAJ.

The statement also said that the NAJ expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting stating that it represented a reasonable attempt by the Ministry of Health to resolve the issues of the Nurses.
