The police in St. Ann are investigating the drowning of twelve year-old Nicholoy Reid in Goshen, Brown's Town on Sunday.

The boy and his family recently relocated to Browns Town.

The police say about 2 o'clock in the afternoon the child and his mother were washing clothes when he climbed onto a tank to fetch water.

He reportedly lost his balance, fell into the tank and drowned.

Ralston Wallace, a resident of the community, told Radio Jamaica News that he and others were nearby when they heard cries for help from the child's mother and tried to rescue the boy, but were unable to do so.

Fire personnel had to pump the water from the tank in order to retrieve the body.
