St. Elizabeth couple freed of ganja related charges

A couple was on Thursday freed of ganja related charges when they appeared in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court.

Marlon Spence and Donnette Stewart were arrested on June 21, 2015 during a raid at a house in Kilmarnock, St. Elizabeth.

The police found 44 pounds of ganja in an unfinished section.

The couple was charged with possession of, dealing in and using premises to store ganja.

During the trial, which started last year, the court heard evidence from the police and the accused.

However, in a summary of the case which led to their acquittal, Senior Parish Judge Ann-Marie Lawrence Grainger said the police were unable to provide evidence that the accused knew that the ganja was inside the building.
