St. Elizabeth doctor charged with fraud

Dr. Oliver Myers, a medical practitioner in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, was charged on Monday with several counts of fraud and breaches of the Real Estate Act.

Dr. Myers' arrest Monday ended a five year investigation by the police.

It is alleged that in 2005, Dr. Myers collected money from a number of persons, after promising them housing solutions on a property he claimed he was developing, in St. Catherine.

It is alleged that he failed to deliver the housing solutions, after collecting nearly a million dollars from three complainants.

The matter was reported to the Fraud Squad, which commenced an investigation.

The 56-year-old doctor was picked up Monday and charged.

He was later offered station bail.

Dr. Myers is booked to appear before the Corporate Area Criminal Court, next week Wednesday.
