St. Elizabeth police report lowest murder figure in 25 years

Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St. Elizabeth Police

The St. Elizabeth police are reporting continued success in reducing the parish's murder rate.

The parish has recorded 13 murders so far this year.

Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St. Elizabeth Police Division, said since the start of the year major crimes have been on a downward trajectory.

"We still have to ensure that crime remains low, and that whilst we are rebuilding, we are also allowing persons to be able to enjoy a safe parish. We have had 13 murders since the start of the year and that is the lowest figure in the last 25 years. And so the parish is doing well.

Superintendent Minto said, except for break-ins, all major crimes such as murder, robberies, and shootings are down.

Break-ins, he said, are currently on a downward trajectory.
