Quiz masterJean-Paul Menou confirming the final scores on TVJ's School Challenge Quiz Final
St. Jago has won the 2019 edition of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz.
The Catherine-based school beat Kingston College in the match which ended 39-19.
This is St. Jago's fifth hold on the title.
This was the 50th season of the popular televised competition.
Kingston College, which has by far the most victories - 11 - was seeking to reclaim the title in the same year that it had also reclaimed the major championships in schoolboy track and field and football, but it wasn't to be.
St. Jago - with team members Captain Chanarie Lindsay, Leroy Cassanova, Abigail Barnes and Joel Henriques - established a small lead early in the match and never relinquished it. That advantage became a daunting gap very early in the nerve wracking buzzer section and the boys from North Street - Captain Lowarn Martin, Patrick Gabbidon, Shane Bennett and Tridicio Edwards - never posed a serious threat in those final four minutes of the contest.
As the countdown clock dipped below the final 60 seconds the St. Jago supporters viewing the proceedings via huge television screens just outside the Television Jamaica studio abandoned their seats and erupted in celebrations. Their Kingston College counterparts were a picture of dejection in contrast, their dream of a triple-trophy celebration dashed on the night.
