The police say they have been making some progress in the
western end of the island in eliminating gang members.
Within the past 24 hours three so called gangsters have been killed in the St. James Police Division.
The latest is Christophe Calvin otherwise called Pinky, a member of the top tier leadership of the Stone Crusher Gang who was fatally shot in Rhyne Park in St. James, shortly before 6 a.m..
Calvin was recently freed on four counts of murder committed in 2007, mainly because witnesses failed to turn up for his trial.
He is also listed on police blotters as a leading player in the lottery scam racket.
On Wednesday about 6:30pm 33-year-old Sheldon Hunter otherwise called Killer and known to the police as a top aide of the leader of the Stone Crusher Gang, was fatally shot after engaging the police in a gun battle at Meggie Top, Salt Spring.
A nine milimetre Taurus pistol with a magazine containing nine cartridges was recovered.
In addition two cartridges, a .38 and a .22 were recovered from his pockets.
About 9:30 Wednesday night, Nathaniel Hue, the leader of a gang said to be terrorizing the Mount Carey and Anchovy areas was fatally shot after he engaged the police in a gun battle.
A .38 revolver was recovered.
According to the St. James Police, the gang, led by Hue was on its files as being responsible for at least ten murders in Mount Carey and Anchovy over the last 12 months.
Hue is well known in the parish as one of the largest and more influential players in the lottery scam.
The Divisional Commander for the St. James Police Division, Superintendent Maurice Robinson is hailing the success of operational initiatives aimed against gangs and gang activities in the parish.
The police say since Wednesday into early Thursday morning they have been working on information gathered by their Divisional Intelligence Unit and other sources.
This has led to them significantly disrupting gang activities in the parish, especially the notorious Stone Crusher Gang and the gang operating in the Mount Carey/Anchovy areas.
Divisional Commander Maurice Robinson said since the fatal shooting of these gang members, the police have received several threats on the lives of police officers.
He says they take these threats seriously, but are undaunted by them.
