St. Kitts and Nevis decides against imposing travel ban on African countries

The St. Kitts and Nevis government says it will not follow other CARICOM countries and impose a travel ban on African countries following the discovery of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris on Wednesday told Parliament that his administration would follow the advice given by the World Health Organization (WHO) to not impose travel restrictions.

Dr. Harris said while some countries have imposed travel bans on South Africa and other southern African countries to keep the variant out, it has already been confirmed in other countries.

With Omicron being designated a variant of concern, the WHO has issued a number of recommendations to the global community, which include enhancing surveillance.
