Residents of St. Thomas are being encouraged to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to remain safe as the festive season approaches.
Superintendent Michael Campbell, head of the St. Thomas Police Division, says the police are increasing their visibility on the streets of Morant Bay, Yallahs and other major areas.
Superintendent Campbell is warning residents to be on the alert for criminal elements moving amongst them.
"Criminals don't like resistance. They take the path of least resistance, so make yourself a harder target. Secure yourself when you're out there. Be aware of your surroundings. [We] observe persons are just walking around, paying attention to their telephone; it's not safe. Secure your cash. We know that in the festive season, volumes of cash will be out there. So I'm just encouraging people to be extremely careful, don't be vulnerable. Pay attention to your surroundings and make yourself a hard target," he urged.
Superintendent Campbell also warned persons to be extremely careful of people they employ around their homes, such as for cleaning and landscaping.
"Because break-in is one of the challenges that we have in St. Thomas. And when people observe that you're not at home, when you make yourself be vulnerable, they know your space, then they will take advantage of it when you're not there," he cautioned.
