Javan Garwood, who was charged with the murder of his stepmother Andrea Lowe Garwood, has been found not guilty.
Mr. Garwood was acquitted after the prosecution told the court that no further evidence would be presented against him.
Chief Justice Bryan Sykes directed jurors to deliver a verdict of not guilty in both counts of murder and accessory before the fact to murder.
The Crown's case collapsed after convicted hitman Dwight "Prince" Bingham did not take the stand.
Bingham pleaded guilty to the murder at his trial last Monday, admitting he entered the Agape Christian Fellowship Church in Trelawny on January 30, 2021 and opening fire on the banker, killing her in front of other worshipers.
Prosecutors were hoping to use his testimony to build their case against Garwood's stepson, who was accused of hiring Bingham to carry out the contract killing.
Bingham is scheduled to be sentenced on July 25.
The driver of the get-away vehicle, Leon Hinds, also pleaded guilty in the case and is serving a six-year prison sentence.
He was called as a witness by prosecutors.
