Sunshine child care residents fail to return home in time for Christmas

Despite a recent announcement by Youth Minister Lisa Hanna that more than 30 wards of  the state would return to the Sunshine Child Care Facility in time for Christmas this will not be the case.

The manager of  the St. Catherine based facility, Vivilyn Morgan, told RJR News that although the home is now licensed the children will remain at other places of  safety.

The 34 boys and girls were removed from the Sunshine Child Care facility in February.

Morgan says she's at a loss regarding the Child Development Agency's  response.

"We need the children, but I don't know why the CDA has taken this stance. I thought the matter was resolved. This has taken a different spin," said Morgan who added  that she will contact Youth Minister Lisa Hanna on the matter.

Earlier this month, the CDA came under fire for the manner in which its officers removed the children from the Sunshine Child Care facility.

A report on the incident was tabled in the House of  Representatives on December 8 following an investigation by Children's Advocate, Diahann Gordon-Harrison.

Hanna deplored the actions ofthe CDA officers saying they were  callous and un-professional.
