Suspect held in connection with rape of 7-year-old girl

Father of a 7-year-old girl who was raped in Treadways, St. Catherine
 
A suspect is in custody in connection with the rape of a 7-year-old girl in Treadways, Linstead, St. Catherine on Thursday afternoon. 
 
The child was medically examined and it was also reportedly confirmed that she was drugged by her attacker. 
 
The suspect was reportedly positively identified by the child. 
 
Her father told Radio Jamaica News that his daughter was attacked while walking home from school about 2:30 p.m. 
 
"A man appeared from out of the bush behind her and draw her in the bush, stuff substance in her mouth, cover her mouth as well that she can't bawl and say anything... then after the drowsiness come outta har now, a suh comes she come outta di bush and start cry," he recounted. 
 
He said a member of the community who was driving past, saw the child and stopped. 
 
The child related the traumatic ordeal to the motorist who took her to the hospital.
 
Residents launched a search for the suspect and approached a man seen loitering in the community. 
 
He was questioned and subsequently handed over to the police. 
 
The father explained that his daughter would usually be picked up from school but did not see her driver on Thursday afternoon so she decided to walk. 
 
He said his daughter is receiving medical and psychological treatment.
