In the Bahamas, the government will be constructing a US$290 million hospital in New Providence.
Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville said approval was granted by the Environment Ministry to proceed with the hospital.
This comes despite pushback by many area residents and even some staff at Princess Margaret Hospital about the plans.
However, in June, Dr. Darville stressed the need for the new facility in light of the structural challenges plaguing PMH.
The hospital will be funded through a 20-year loan from China Export-Import Bank with an interest rate of two percent.
It is projected that the facility will take between 30 and 36 months to construct.
