Three more road deaths

A woman died on Sunday after the car in which she was a passenger, ran off the road and plunged into a precipice along the New Green road in Mandeville, Manchester.

She has been identified as 58 year old-Judith Morgan of George's Valley in Mandeville.

The car was being driven by her daughter.

Two toddlers were also in the vehicle and were taken to hospital.

Peter James, owner of the wrecking service which removed the car, and a friend of the family, said he got a distress call from the driver, moments after the mishap and rushed to the scene.

Two in Westmoreland

Ms Morgan’s death came only one day after two men died in a crash involving two Cobra motorcycles in Westmoreland.

A report, released by the Public Safety & Traffic Enforcement Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force explained that the collision took place Saturday morning about 10 a.m., at the intersection of Mint road and Grange Hill main road in the parish.

The deceased have only been identified as men, aged 18 and 39.

These deaths bring the number of road fatalities so far this year, to 365.

That's nine more deaths than occurred in the same period in 2024.

With 10 days to go before the end of the year and the peak of the busy holiday season approaching, Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, is urging caution on the nation's roadways, along with smart driver practices.

He’s also calling for the resumption of a motorcyclist training programme that was discontinued.
