Three more road deaths in two incidents on Friday

Three men died in separate crashes on Friday in a tragic start to the four-day Easter Weekend on the nation's roads.

The crashes occurred in Trelawny and St Ann.

According to the police, two persons died in a multiple-vehicle collision along the Braco main road about 7:15pm, while several others were injured.

The deceased have been identified as 29 year-old Michael Fletcher, a taxi driver of Spicy Hill district, and 33 year-old Stefon Bruce, a truck driver of Red Dirt District, both in Trelawny.

The crash occurred in the vicinity of the entrance to Braco Beach and involved four ATVs, a tractor trailer and a Suzuki Baleno motor car.

It's reported that the Suzuki Baleno and tractor trailer were traveling in opposite directions on the Braco main road, when on reaching the vicinity of Braco Beach, the vehicles collided, which caused the trailer to overturn.

The truck slammed into the four ATVs  that were positioned at the entrance of the tourist attraction, resulting in extensive damage to those vehicles.

Two of the ATV drivers, Mr Fletcher and Mr Bruce, died from their injuries.

Eight other people, including a teenager, were treated at Falmouth Hospital.

The police say the possible causes of the collision are excessive speeding, loss of control and error of judgment, or negligence.

Meanwhile, a 29 year old man died in a single-vehicle collision on the Edward Seaga Highway in St Ann, in the vicinity of Unity Valley, about 8:42pm.

The police have also theorised that excessive speeding may have led to the crash.

To date, there have been 110 fatalities from 96 collisions, compared with 136 fatalities from 117 collisions during the same period in 2024.
