'Time's Up!' Hollywood makes statement against sexual abuse at Golden Globes

Powerful speeches about Hollywood's sexual abuse scandal have dominated the 75th Golden Globe Awards.

It was the first major Hollywood awards ceremony since the film industry was hit by sexual harassment scandals, with stars wearing black to honour victims and to support the Time's Up movement.

Oprah Winfrey summed up the mood, saying "a new day is on the horizon" as she collected the Cecil B. deMille Award, becoming the first black woman to do so at the Golden Globes.

After her impassioned speech, some are calling for her to make history in another way, by becoming the first female President of the United States.

The hashtag #Oprah2020 has been used more than 22,000 times on Twitter since the ceremony, while #OprahForPresident has been used more than 7,000 times in the same period.

Meanwhile, the big film winner of the night was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which took home four awards.

Big Little Lies won the most awards in the television categories, including honours for its stars Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern and Alexander Skarsgard.

It was also named best limited TV series.

Sterling K. Brown became the first African-American actor to win in the best actor in a TV drama category for "This Is Us," and Aziz Ansari became the first Asian-American actor to win a Golden Globe for best actor in a TV comedy for "Master of None."

E! gender pay gap

In the meantime, Debra Messing and Eva Longoria have joined other actresses to criticise E! regarding its gender pay gap in its live TV interviews at the Globes.

E!'s Giuliana Rancic and Ryan Seacrest were each put in awkward positions as the stars voiced anger at the loss of host Catt Sadler in a pay dispute.

Sadler left E! after discovering a "massive" disparity between her and colleague Jason Kennedy's pay.

The E! network's red carpet interviews were intended to focus on the night's Time's Up campaign, which prompted most stars to dress in black.
