The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) has welcomed the announced ban on rideshare services.
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has proposed an immediate ban on the services pending adherence to regulations.
TODSS President Egeton Newman said PPV operators have been speaking out against the growing popularity in the use of rideshare services for the last three years.
He said these services have been negatively affecting operators who play by the rules.
"We cannot continue to have people coming to this country and running the public transport sector in the country to wreck by providing a service that is not recommended by the government of Jamaica. They are not licensed to do so in Jamaica, and anybody coming into Jamaica...to operate public passenger vehicle must have a fit and proper record," he declared.
