Toll free access on the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000 has been extended to July 1.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced the extension during his contribution to the 2024/2025 Budget Debate on Thursday.
Mr. Holness said negotiations are continuing between TransJamaican Highway and the National Road Operating and Constructing Company on the concession for the segment of the highway.
"TransJamaican Highway Limited, which operates the East-West Highway from Caymanas to May Pen under a concession agreement, has a right of first refusal to operate the new May Pen to Williamsfield Highway. The TransJamaican Highway has exercised their right under the concession agreement by making an offer to the government of Jamaica. This offer is being evaluated by independent financial advisors and negotiations are ongoing. In order to facilitate conclusion of these negotiations, the toll period is being extended until July 1, 2024," Mr. Holness announced.
The Prime Minister also announced that the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project is to be renamed in honour of National Hero Paul Bogle.
