There is to be another major shake-up in the senior ranks of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. RJR News has been informed that several of the country's top cops will take up new assignments in coming weeks.
At the top of the list is head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell. He will take up duties at the Inspectorate of Constabulary.
Assistant Commissioner Warren Clarke, who is currently Head of the Area One Police, will be in charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch.
Assistant Commissioner Clifford Chambers, head of the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch, is reportedly going to Area Two which comprises St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland.
ACP Danny Graham, who was last year reassigned to Area Three headquarters, will be the new head of Area One which covers Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James and Trelawny.
Senior Superintendent Terrence Bent will leave Area Four operations for Mobile Reserve.
Assistant Commissioner Ronald Anderson, currently at the Protective Services Division, will replace ACP Devon Watkiss as head of Area Four. RJR News has been informed that ACP Watkiss will be going overseas for a fellowship programme.
Superintendent Michael Phipps, who is currently at the Criminal Investigation Branch, will be the new Crime Officer for Area One.
The changes will take effect at the end of the month.
The transfers come as the police force grapples with an increase in homicides.
More than 700 people have been killed since the start of the year.
