Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says his ministry will be taking action to strengthen enforcement and public awareness efforts in response to the spate of fatal road crashes in recent weeks.
Mr. Vaz says his ministry will be enhancing coordination with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Island Traffic Authority, National Road Safety Council and other stakeholders. This includes increased patrols, roadside checks and targeted safety campaigns in high-risk areas.
The minister has called for all road users, including motorists, passengers, pedestrians and cyclists, to play their parts in reversing the current trend.
Mr. Vaz says no law or regulation will be effective unless the nation recommits to valuing life and showing care and discipline on the roadways.
The minister is urging the public to remain vigilant, obey all traffic laws and report reckless behaviour.
