T&T dismisses reports of counterfeit $100 bills being circulated

The Trinidad and Tobago government has described as fake, reports on social media that counterfeit copies of the new $100 bill are being circulated.

It issued a statement in response to a video on social media which showed counterfeit copies of the new $100 bill which was designed to reduce money laundering.

National Security Minister Stuart Young said it is near impossible to duplicate the new currency notes which went into circulation last week.

Mr. Young said the images circulated online do not have the transparency security feature.

He urged members of the public not to follow fake news on social media.
