T&T police note reduction in drug flows following US strikes

The Trinidad and Tobago police say recent strikes by the United States on alleged drug traffickers has seen a reduction in drugs flowing into the twin island republic.

The Commissioner of Police says the strikes have already made a measurable impact on the local drug trade with a shortage of the illicit drugs, particularly from those trafficked from Venezuela and Colombia.

He said the price of illicit narcotics had risen sharply because of the shortage caused by recent US airstrikes and several major seizures by local law enforcement in the last few weeks.

Since September 2, the US has carried out 16 strikes, killing about 66 people.
