Two in St. James found guilty of cocaine charges

By Kimone Witter

Two St. James residents who attempted to export cocaine disguised as pastry were on Tuesday convicted of breaching the Dangerous Drugs Act when they appeared in the Parish Court.

Kediesha Johnson and Calvin Grant were charged with possession of, dealing in, attempting to export and conspiracy to export cocaine.

The prosecution withdrew the conspiracy charge.

Johnson and Grant are to be sentenced on May 9. Their bail was extended.

It was reported that on February 25, 2021, Ms. Johnson went to a courier company in Montego Bay to ship a box to a person in Canada.

The box contained several packages labelled 'cheese puffs' and 'plantain chips'.

The packages were later found to contain nine ounces of cocaine.

The police were alerted, and following investigations, Ms. Johnson was arrested.

When cautioned, she told investigators that Mr. Grant gave her the package to ship. Mr. Grant was subsequently arrested and charged.
