Two more JUTC buses damaged by arsonists

The state-run Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is investigating another incident in which one of its buses was extensively damaged by arsonists.

The incident took place in Stony Hill, St. Andrew Thursday afternoon.

It is reported that several persons stoned the JUTC bus then attempted to set it on fire.

This followed a stabbing incident.

Reginald Allen, Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC, told RJR News he had received an initial report on the attack.

"We understand one of our buses was significantly damaged in a community called Pinto in upper St. Andrew, near Stony Hill. I am told that there was a fight involving two individuals which ended in a fatality of fatalities and members of the community took out their rage on the bus supposedly because the driver didn't continue driving when the fuss developed on the bus," said Mr. Allen.

He added that an assessment is being carried out to determine the cost of the damage.

More losses for the JUTC

And Thursday's incident was the second time that a JUTC bus had been damaged by arsonists this week.

According to Mr. Allen, another attack took place in downtown Kingston.

"The night before, somebody tried to light a fire on a bus downtown. They didn't succeed but it was clearly an arson attempt because matches and other items were found on the bus. Unfortunately for the JUTC, it's damage and losses again."
