An update will be sought from the Ministry of Health on Tuesday concerning a quest to get the reinstatement of Government Pharmacist Valerie Germain.
Mrs. Germain, who is also President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica (PSJ), was interdicted in November after making comments in the media regarding the shortage of pharmacists in the public health sector.
During a meeting last month, Minister of Health Ruddy Spencer reportedly promised to look into concerns raised about the action taken against Mrs. Germain.
Danny Roberts, head of the Hugh Lawson Shearer Trade Union Education Institute, who presented arguments on behalf of Mrs. Germain, says he will be seeking a status report from the Health Ministry.
“Well we will have to follow up today with the Ministry of Health to determine whether they have received a response from the Public Services Commission and we’ll take it from there,” Mr. Roberts said.
During the election campaign People’s National Party President Portia Simpson-Miller said if her party was voted into power one of its first tasks would be to reinstate Mrs. Germain.
