UPDATE: Bog Walk Gorge reopened

Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie

The Bog Walk Gorge, which was closed to vehicular traffic today for several hours, was reopened sometime after 3 o'clock this afternoon.

The highly used thoroughfare was closed by the authorities after a container fell from a trailer navigating the turn at Flat Bridge this morning.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie said the incident took place a few minutes before 10:00 a.m.

"An International motor truck with trailer attached was heading along the Bog Walk Gorge from Spanish Town towards Linstead. On reaching the bridge and the driver trying to negotiate the right turn that leads onto the bridge, the report is that he felt that the container was dragging the vehicle, so he stopped. What happened next is that the container went to the right and about three-quarters of it went into the gorge."

ACP McKenzie said the container has since been removed from the gorge.
