US Embassy not closing Jamaica operations

The US Embassy in Kingston has moved to clear the air following the decision to close the Citizenship and Immigration Services Office.

A statement from the Embassy said it will not be closing and its visa and other consular operations will continue as normal.

These include tourist, student, official and immigrant visa applications and American Citizen Services.

It explained that the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, USCIS, will close on March 1.

The USCIS is a specialised government agency that oversees matters of lawful immigration to the United States.

According to the statement it maintained a section at the US Embassy for several years, but due to official reasons, will transfer back to the United States.

Applicants wanting to access USCIS services will be able to do and receive the necessary support and feedback from the Consular section of the US Embassy.

Additional information on USCIS services and how they will be affected by the office closing can be found at the Embassy’s website.
