UTECH still wants Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium

The University of Technology (UTECH) is not giving up hope on housing its western campus at the Multi-Purpose Stadium in Trelawny.

For months, the administration at the institution has been wooing the Government to lease them the facility but each time but has been met with several roadblocks, including the Government stating that it has plans for the facility.

UTECH President, Professor Errol Morrison however, argues that the university is a part of Government and leasing the property to them should be viewed as sharing.

He says they are still courting the Government in order to acquire the space in the interim for their flagship activity which is sports.

"We're still expecting to move into Trelawny in a big way. What we see happening at the stadium is a campus with sports and several basic programmes being offered; business, engineering, nursing and pharmacy," Professor Morrison said while addressing the first graduating batch of Masters in Business Administration students from UTECH's western campus at Kent Avenue in Montego Bay, St. James Thursday evening.

He also noted that the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium as it stands can accommodate the students without any alterations to the structure.

The Government meanwhile, continues to pay millions to maintain the facility which was opened three years ago to facilitate the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
