Vaz calls for NWC to speed up water restoration efforts

Energy Minister Daryl Vaz

Energy Minister Daryl Vaz is urging the National Water Commission (NWC) to fast-track its restoration efforts as several communities remain without piped water almost three weeks after Hurricane Beryl.

Mr. Vaz says the slow pace of restoration has not only impacted the well-being of citizens but also significantly disrupted the livelihoods of those within the agriculture sector.

The Minister says discussions will be arranged with the relevant authorities.

"I will be setting a meeting for the first time with, not only the [NWC] management who I have been meeting with several times a week, but the complete board of directors and the shareholders to make sure that we are all aligned, and most importantly, that the directors and shareholders of the JPS are aware of the situation facing their customers in Jamaica," he said at Wednesday morning's post Cabinet press briefing.

The NWC has said its systems depend on electricity from the Jamaica Public Service Company.
