Vendors in Brown's Town, St. Ann
While some vendors welcomed strong sales at the busy Brown's Town Grand Market in St. Ann, others were left disappointed after Wednesday evening's turnout.
The parish has been experiencing days of heavy downpour, and leading up to Christmas Eve, vendors reported low sales.
Nicola, a vendor who was in the town on Wednesday night, said activities were slow as several communities remain in the dark.
"It's very slow but we are going on, and because of the storm, you know that a lot of people have a lot of things to do on their house and they lost a lot of things. It's not looking so beautiful, but few little people are out. Because of the light system you know that a lot of people is not going to come out, but we thank God for those who are out," she acknowledged.
But another vendor, Noel Tucker, said at the turnout from shoppers was favourable.
"Brown's Town is festive. The moment we see the rain is falling here, it's going to be a good turnout. Last year wasn't as big as this year. Even though we went through the hurricane, it's bigger than last year by far," he suggested.
Senior superintendent Carlos Russell, head of the St. Ann Police, told Radio Jamaica News that the night was generally incident-free across the parish.
