'We are ready': Flow and Digicel confident ahead of storm

Stephen Price, Vice President and General Manager at Flow Jamaica and Brithney Clarke, Public Relations Manager for Digicel

Vice President and General Manager at Flow Jamaica, Stephen Price, has given the assurance that customers will stay connected for as long as weather conditions permit.

Outlining the company's readiness, Mr. Price's Flow has established a strong and accurate billing process.

"We now have the kind of robust monitoring and reporting around outages right across the island, so we know exactly who is out, when they're out, how long they're out for. We're going to be pausing disconnections over the period of the storm and watch. From a power perspective, while we work with our partners, we do have backup supply for about 61% of our mobile sites at this point in time. We have hardened some of the most vulnerable routes, taken some of those underground in terms of Mandeville, Porous, Sandy Bay. We are ready," he declared.

At the same time, Public Relations Manager for Digicel, Brithney Clarke, said all systems are in place to ensure connectivity and accurate billing.

"Digicel will monitor the network and billing systems closely to ensure accuracy and fairness. Our backup power, data, redundancy and system checks are all in place. So everything is accurate at this time and we will ensure that especially post storm, we do the necessary assessments and address customer concerns."

Noting that the company continues to deal with the issue of vandalism, she pleaded to Jamaicans: "Please, these are essential services, so continue to take care of them because we have to take care of you."

Ms. Clarke and Mr. Price were speaking at day two of the Office of the Prime Minister's special press briefing on Thursday morning.
