Weir apologises

Olympian Warren Weir has apologised for his behaviour during a recent traffic stop involving members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The video of the encounter was widely circulated on social media, with many persons characterising Mr. Weir's reaction as disrespectful.

In a post on Instagram Tuesday evening, Mr. Weir said he now realises that, while he was upset and felt targeted, his reaction was not appropriate.

He said the incident has given him the opportunity to look at how he can better approach his interactions with the police in the future.

The athlete also acknowledged that he needs to be mindful of how his posts will affect his family, friends and others who look up to and support him.
