Moses Chybar, President of the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce
The Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce is expressing concern over the length of time it is taking to clear the main roads in the parish.
Hurricane Melissa left a trail of downed trees, poles, and power lines across the major thoroughfares, impeding movement.
In many areas, the roads have been cleared to allow for single lane access.
President of the Chamber, Moses Chybar, says the slow pace of the clearing is resulting in a pileup of vehicles in the town centre.
"We think it's time now. Enough time has passed. The Jamaica Public Service could have taken down these light poles, take them out of the road, so that traffic can flow freely. We think they are moving too slow. We understand that restoration of power will take time, but the poles that are fallen and the poles that are hanging across the road, we think not only is it causing traffic congestion, but it is also a risk factor because those poles, we think, can fall anytime. And big trucks are coming in now and touching the wires, the electrical wires that are still on the poles, and this we think can cause them to topple over," he warned.
He urged JPS to move more quickly to clear especially the main road.
