A woman is dead and 21 other passengers from a Coaster bus are in hospital after the vehicle collided with a water truck along Washington Boulevard in St. Andrew on Tuesday morning.
One of the passengers is in critical condition.
The driver of the bus is in custody.
It's reported that sometime after 9 a.m., the Toyota Coaster bus was heading into Kingston, when the crash occurred in the vicinity of Duhaney Park.
Keeno Miller, a vendor who sells along Washington Boulevard, recounted the moments leading up to the collision:
"When di bus a come up the road, zeen, the truck change lane. The change weh it change lane, the bus a come pon speed. So you know how di ting set. Suh di come weh him a come now, me nuh know if him a try fi save fi himself or wah, suh weh him do, him just slam di next side a di bus inna eh truck," he recalled.
Noting that there is frequent speeding along the thoroughfare, Mr. Miller appealed to motorists to cut their speed.
"Di driver dem, dem need fi tek dem own likkle time, dem a guh too hard. Dem need fi tek time drive. A people life dem a carry, anuh hog and goat dem a drive with," he asserted.
The collision caused gridlock along the thoroughfare.
