Production at Windalco's bauxite plant in Ewarton, St. Catherine has been disrupted as some workers have taken protest action.

They are upset about the non-payment of retroactive salaries.

The workers, who are represented by the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), say they will continue to protest until the money is paid.

Garth Cheese, UCASE Chief Union delegate at Windalco's Ewarton refinery, told RJR News that the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) ruled that the employees be paid in line with production targets.

However, Mr. Cheese claims the company is yet to fully honour its obligations.

"They were supposed to start paying it from November 2016, we were supposed to get the retroactive. They said that they weren't going to pay it until January 2019, which is not in the ruling of the IDT. We want that money," he asserted.

He added that the workers are entitled to other increases by retroactivity, which the company has not paid forward.

"We are forced to work overtime, weekends, holidays without pay. Our contract says that we are required to work 40 hours a week, but then after you finish your 40 hours, we are slated to work two weekends out of every month and this is for free, where you don't get any pay for it," Mr. Cheese contended.

He called for the Government to intervene in the industrial unrest at Windalco.

RJR News tried unsuccessfully to get a response from Windalco.
