A team from the Road and Works Department in the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation is to visit the Yallahs High School following reports of structural damage to the building after Monday's earthquake.
According to the school's principal, Mark Malabvar, visible cracks have been observed on sections of the building.
"We have observed some visible cracks on our buildings, particularly the lower school of the female bathroom. Concrete has fallen from the roof in the female bathroom and the steels are exposed. There are some cracks that have also opened up on the walls. Those cracks are visible. They were there before, but they have really opened up significantly in light of the earthquake yesterday," he disclosed.
He said he has a requested an analysis from the municipal corporation's structural engineer to ensure the buildings are safe.
It is expected that the team will arrive on Wednesday.
Mr. Malabar said classes are continuing and measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of students.
The Ministry of Education has said a team is to conduct an assessment of school buildings following Monday's earthquake.
