Effective today, street vending will no longer be allowed in the commercial district in Spalding, Clarendon.
Persons who normally ply their wares in the area have been told to relocate to the newly built Spalding Market which was officially opened yesterday by Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller.
Mayor of May Pen, Scean Barnswell, is warning vendors that the municipal police will be deployed to ensure compliance.
He added that illegal parking in the town will be prohibited and motorists will be required to use paid parking facilities.
In the meantime, the Area Three Police Division is taking steps to prevent extortionists from targetting vendors and transport operators in the vicinity of the Spalding Market.
Head of the Division, Assistant Commissioner Derrick Cochrane, says the police will be keeping a close watch on the area
