St. Kitts and Nevis's Opposition People's Action Movement (PAM) scored a victory in an election petition in court on Wednesday.
The issue surrounds a dual citizenship case.
The judge ordered Wednesday morning that Eugine Hamilton, PAM's Deputy Leader, was the duly elected representative of Constituency 8.
The verdict effectively rejected the election petition brought by defeated candidate Cedric Liburd of the governing St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party.
Mr. Hamilton said he felt vindicated by the ruling.
"Before I offered myself for election, I checked with all of the legal sources I could to determine whether the holder of a United States green card was in violation of the constitution of St. Christopher Nevis and all of the information and opinions I received, indicated I was not. I feel fully vindicated that I was in the clear from the beginning and that I was properly elected," Hamilton told the BBC Caribbean Service.
Lawyers for Liburd brought the case in July after claiming that Hamilton was a holder of US passport and citizenship.
Hamilton is a green card holder but does not have US passport.
