Barbados: St. Luke's Brighton Primary remains closed after strong odor affects students and staff

St. Luke's Brighton Primary in Barbados will remain closed today after being closed early Monday due to a strong odor that affected students and staff.

The Ministry of Education, Technological, and Vocational Training made the decision following complaints of symptoms, including burning eyes, itchy throats, itchy skin, and a bitter taste in the mouth.

As a precaution, staff and students were relocated to a nearby car park while Ministry officials assessed the situation.

Interviews with those present indicated that the scent was particularly strong during the early morning hours.

Tests are being conducted to investigate the cause and assess air quality.
