Much of Trinidad and Tobago was left without electrical power Thursday reportedly following an unusually high level of liquids in the National Gas Company's gas supplies.
The Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago (PowerGen) was unable to supply enough electricity to the TT Electricity Commission (TTEC).
The load-shedding began at 7:15 in the morning and affected persons throughout Trinidad, from O'Meara, Mausica and Five Rivers in the east to Point Fortin in the south.
The massive power outage was estimated to have affected 60 per cent of TTEC's customers.
There was speculation by some that sabotage was behind the incident but the National Gas Company has denied this saying it has no evidence.
According to the company, these liquids could have entered the pipeline during the exploration/production process.
Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine has sought to assure that the Government will always place the supply of electricity to the nation ahead of any other commitments.
