CARICOM mourns the passing of distinguished academic Sir Roy Augier

The CARICOM secretariat has expressed sadness at the death of St. Lucia-born academic, Sir Fitzroy Richard "Roy" Augier, whom it described as a distinguished Caribbean historian, writer, and professor emeritus.

Sir Roy, Professor Emeritus of The University of the West Indies and a founding member of the Barbados-based Caribbean Examinations Council, who only last month celebrated his 100th birthday, died at his home in Jamaica on Sunday.

In a statement, the 15-member regional integration grouping said Professor Augier was well known for his seminal contribution to advanced studies in history.
