France on Monday became the latest country to express concern about Venezuela's military incursion into Guyana's Exclusive Economic Zone, urging Caracas to avoid a repeat of such action in violation of the provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2023.
France called for Venezuela to refrain from any unilateral action likely to change the situation that currently obtains off Essequibo.
Over the weekend, Guyana alerted the international community to the presence of a Venezuelan naval vessel that was near its oil assets for about four hours.
Since then, the United States, CARICOM, the Commonwealth as well as the Organization of American States have all called for Venezuela not to engage in further provocation by threatening ExxonMobil's Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel.
Washington has warned Venezuela that there would be "consequences for the Maduro regime" if Caracas continues to engage in such action.
