Guyana's opposition plans forensic audit of corruption amid election campaign

Guyana's leader of the minority opposition, Alliance For Change, Nigel Hughes, says his party will push for an independent forensic audit of suspected corruption if the ruling People's Progressive Party Civic loses next year's general and regional elections.

He said charges would be laid against suspects if necessary following the audit.

He charged that the AFC, which had formed the 2015-2020 coalition, A Partnership for National Unity government, would advocate for the hiring of overseas experts to remove any suspicion of racially and politically motivated bias if Guyanese are asked to conduct such audits.
