Suriname supports the reactivation of UNASUR

The Suriname government says it is in favour of the reactivation of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).

President Chandrikapersad Santokhi arrived in Brazil yesterday to attend the UNASUR Heads of State meeting that was specially convened by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio 'Lula' da Silva as he seeks to revive the organisation.

The Suriname Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation said UNASUR offers excellent cooperation opportunities through strong regional unity.

It said the aim of the two-day meeting in Brasilia is to promote the resumption of peaceful dialogue at the highest political level and to identify common aspects for the resumption of integration and cooperation in South America.
