2011 Cricket World Cup under threat from terrorists

There are reports that ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 matches played in India could be under threat from the terrorist groups Al-Qaeda and Lashkar-e-taiba.

The security in India for the World Cup is now on high alert following reports which suggest that terrorists are planning attacks similar to those committed in Mumbai during World Cup matches.

The November 2008 attacks on Mumbai shocked the world.

There were more than 10 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across India's largest city, by terrorists who invaded from Pakistan waters.

The attacks, which drew widespread global condemnation, began on 26 November 2008 and lasted until 29 November, killing 164 people and wounding at least 308.

Indian authorities say they have taken measures to ensure the high-profile tournament remains safe.
