Jamaica's Ackelia Smith retained the the women's long jump title at the NCAA Division 1 Championships on Thursday night in Eugene, Oregon. Smith, competing for the University of Texas, leapt 6.79 metres to win the event.
In other events, Brianna Lyston advanced to the women's 100 metre final. Lyston competing for Louisiana State University, clocked 10.99 seconds to win her semi-final, the second fastest time heading into the final.
However, Lyston missed out on the 200 metre final after clocking 22.76 for 5th in her semi-final.
Nickiesha Pryce representing the University of Arkansas, clocked the second fastest time of 49.87 to qualify for the women's 400 metre final.
Gabrielle Matthews competing for the University of Mississippi, returned 56.19 to advance to the final of the women's 400 metre hurdles.
