American hurdler Aries Merritt shattered the men’s 110m hurdles world record in the Brussels Diamond League on Friday.
All season the fleet-footed American had promised to lower the world record and today he delivered.
In a near flawless race, Merritt stocked the clock in 12.80 shattering the 12.87 set by the superb Cuban athlete Dayron Robles in Ostrava in 2008.
Jamaican Olympic bronze medalist Hansle Parchment was third in 13.14. Here are the results.
