Ashmeade the only Ja winner at Monaco Diamond League

2011 world championship finalist Nickel Ashmeade was the lone Jamaican winner at the  IAAF Monaco

Diamond league meet on Friday.

Ashmeade sped to a respectable 20.02 seconds to hold off American Wallace Spearmon 20.07 and Churundy Martina 20.09.

Marvin Anderson was 5th in 20.38 seconds.

Despite a season's best 54.44 seconds, Olympic champion Melaine Walker was beaten into 3rd place in the women's 400 m hurdles.

The event was won by Susana Hejnova of the czech republic in a season's best 54.12 seconds ahead of American Lashinda Demus 54.26....

Meanwhile Kerron Stewart’s inconsistent form continued as she could only manage 4th in the women's 100 meters in 11.11 seconds.         

The event was won by the improving Nigerian Blessing Okagbare in a personal best 10.96 seconds

Another Jamaican Sherrian Brooks was 6th in 11.24. Andrew Riley with 13.28 seconds could only manage 7th in the men's 110 meter  hurdles which  was won by American Aries Merrit who equalled his world leading mark of 12.93 seconds.

In the field events, national champion Kimberly Williams leapt a creditable 14.50 meters for  2nd in the women's triple jump which was won by Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen with 14.85 metres.

The diamond league series takes a break until after the Olympic Games and will resume on August 17 in Stockholm, Sweden.
