Blake, Anderson, Fothergill, Spence and Brooks

RJR Sports has confirmed a report in the Italian newspaper "Gazzetta Dello Sport," that the five Jamaicans who tested positive at the June 26-28 National Championships are Yohan Blake, Marvin Anderson, Lanceford Spence, Allodin Fothergill and commonwealth 100 metre champion Sheri-Ann Brooks.

The newspaper report was confirmed by RJR Sports with a source of international repute.

RJR Sports also understands that they tested positive for a stimulant, but it's not yet ascertained whether it's a "B" level substance, which would mean a public warning by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

According to the source, "no one has said what they have taken".

Of the five, Blake, Anderson and Brooks figure most prominently.

Blake and Anderson are in the men's sprint relay pool while Brooks was scheduled to run the 100 metres in the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany.

She finsihed third at the national trials and was also member of Jamaica's women's sprint relay squad in Beijing.

Positive drug tests will stain the country - McCook

Meanwhile, IAAF area representative Neville Teddy McCook says the current drugs scandal will put a stain on Jamaica's track and field image.

"Regardless of what they offending drug is, whether it is a steroid or a drug which requires a penalty or a small warning, I still think it's damaging for the country because the cynics will always say yes, I know that they've been doing this for a long time, this is just a tip of the ice berg and other have been getting away with it. It does a lot of damage to the country and I'm extremely disappointed and feel very hurt as a Jamaican, a member of the IAAF and someone who stands against drugs," he said.

McCook also believes that athletes who are found to be drug cheats should face the necessary punishment as information is readily available as to what substances are prohibited.

"You are responsible for everything that goes into you body. You can read and write and if you can't then speak with you coach, your manager, to people who can advice you.

"You are responsible for what you consume so, you have no excuse whatsoever as you should utilize all the help and guidance you can get," he said.
