Bolt signs new deal with Puma

Jamaican track and field superstar, Usain Bolt  will earn an estimated  US$10m a year in a new sponsorship deal with German sportswear company, Puma that will take him to the end of his career.

The 27 year-old Bolt, has been with Puma since 2003, and last renewed what is considered to be the biggest sponsorship deal in athletics in 2010.

Bolt will be paid $10m for each of the next three seasons and the same amount if he competes again in 2017 when London hosts the World Championships.

Once he retires from competition, he will be paid $4 million per year to act as a Puma ambassador. Forbes Magazine estimated that Bolt was paid $9m annually under his current deal that expires at the end of the year.

Bolt said he was proud to continue with Puma "for the years ahead".

In addition to its contract with Usain Bolt, Puma has a longstanding commitment to Jamaican track & field.

The deal is a boost for Puma as it continues to take on bigger sportswear rivals Adidas and Nike.
